More than 7,000 riders gathered by the harbour for Light the City 2019. The Sydney Rides opening event saw Mrs Macquaries Road become a car-free paradise.
Light installations all along the 2.5km circuit turned the trees and night sky into a vibrant, ever-changing spectacle on Saturday 21 September.
“This is our first time to Light the City. I attend boarding school in Brisbane and my parents have just moved to Sydney. I’m really into photography and was inspired to photograph the excitement around me,” said Sky, age 16.
Young and old, on bike or on foot, Sydneysiders and tourists – all thrilled to stroll by the harbour without a car in sight.
“It’s our first time to Light the City and we’re excited to experience riding at night with the kids in a safe manner,” said Krzysztof Szkudlarek.
After a week of rainy weather, people were eager to hit the dancefloor. The Soul of Sydney DJs kept the energy high with a silent disco at the glitterball arena.
“This is our third time to Light the City. Each year we cycle in from the inner west. To be free from all the traffic in the city makes it such a peaceful ride. We love all the lights,” said Anne and Franky.
“We’re normally out riding at 5.30am but tonight we’re excited to experience Light the City at the other end of the day,” said Fiona and Karen.
The LED dancers took the party to new heights, bringing their illuminated boogie to the dancefloor and posing for photos with crowds.
