11-year-old violinist Justine Zhang is about to add another string to her bow when she performs at Green Square’s celebrations for the Sydney Lunar Festival.
Playing violin since the age of 5, Justine has performed solos at the Sydney Opera House 5 times and at Sydney Town Hall 3 times.
Justine said, “I feel very excited that it is that time of year again and it is an honour to perform in the Green Square celebrations for the community and in front of the Lord Mayor.
“I like to play violin as it makes a beautiful sound, the shape, the history – everything about it. Many Mozart pieces make me feel like I want to stay as a happy little girl, never wanting to grow up. I also like to play the violin when I feel sad. I love to produce the sound as an extension of the emotions that I feel.
“I was born in the Year of the Pig in 2007, so I am especially happy this year. I know the pig represents luck, good fortune and wealth, symbolising a hardworking, peace-loving person, like I try to be."
Visitors can see Justine Zhang and other musicians in the free performance at Green Square Library from 2.15pm to 3.30pm on Saturday 9 February.
The performance is part of the City of Sydney’s Sydney Lunar Festival, running across the city from 1 to 10 February.
