What to do in Sydney this April

Laugh out loud at Sydney Comedy Festival

Sydney’s biggest comedy event is back, with hundreds of the world’s funniest comedians lined up. Need help choosing a gig? Try the free comedy gala at Tumbalong Park, starting with entertainment for the kids, before international and Australian jokesters take to the stage.

It’s all about you(th)

The free events during Youth Week in the City were designed by young people for young people. Go on a thrilling scavenger hunt, chill out to a live music jam or challenge your friends at arcade games. Meet new friends as you enjoy free food, fun and prizes.

9 to 17 April

Hear bold ideas for our future

Former Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, Christiana Figueres will be in conversation with human rights barrister, Jennifer Robinson at CityTalks: the climate and nature crisis. They’ll discuss the new frontlines of climate action and unpack the levers of change for tackling the challenging years ahead.

Sydney Streets comes to Surry Hills

We’re stopping traffic for a day of fun on Crown Street. Enjoy the buzz of the street festival atmosphere with live music, entertainers, kids’ activities and outdoor dining.

Saturday 5 April

Quench your thirst for knowledge

How does 20 free talks in 10 bars for one night only sound? University of Sydney researchers, academics and alumni share their big ideas at Raising the Bar. From insights into how we can all meaningfully contribute to refugee reintegration to learning about what the world’s biggest telescope can tell us about space, there’s something for every curious mind.

You’ll find everything from artisan jewellery to locally produced honey at this new monthly night market. Soak up the sounds of live music and indulge in street food from around the world.

Rob Waters is a Gomeroi man and an Australian Poetry Slam champion. In this intimate conversation, he’ll share insights and inspiration about his creative practice, which is powerful, moving and deeply rooted in culture.

Get hands-on at a workshop for aspiring digital creators

Curious about 3D modelling and digital art? Learn the basics in this beginner-friendly workshop that will introduce you to Blender — a free, powerful tool used in animation, game design and visual effects.

Saturday 26 April

Spark your child’s creativity

Join your child at Little Artists workshops as they create with clay, paper and animal designs. These sessions are designed for children aged 2 to 5 and combine storytelling, sensory play and hands-on art-making.
