A total of $3.6 million from the City of Sydney will go towards specialist homelessness services in the inner city over the next 3 years.
The City will provide the following support each year for 3 years:
- $700,000 for Neami National Way2home
- $300,000 for Launchpad Youth Community Incorporated
- $100,000 for Innari Incorporated
- $100,000 for Aboriginal Corporation for Homelessness and Rehabilitation Community Services.
While primary responsibility for homelessness rests with the NSW Government, we have responded to homelessness for over 35 years.
We link people sleeping rough with appropriate services, manage the impacts of rough sleeping in the public domain, and provide sector leadership and coordination.
We also work in partnership with NSW Government agencies and specialist homelessness services to provide collaborative outreach to people sleeping rough.
Over the past 4 years, we have contributed a total of $4.7m in funding to support inner city services run through the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.
Since 2010, we have held a biannual street count to track the numbers of people sleeping rough in our area. Our most recent count in February 2021 found 272 people sleeping rough across the local area, and 288 people occupying crisis and temporary accommodation beds.
Since 2017 the number of people sleeping rough in the city has been slowly decreasing, in part as a result of an increase in funding and services.
