Multipurpose courts for everyone to enjoy

The courts can be used for netball, basketball, volleyball, badminton and futsal. The centre also has a kiosk, reception area, a staff office and change rooms as well as an external terrace. The surrounding area has been landscaped.

Great opportunity to get into sport

Australia's youngest Ninja Warrior and Sydney Comets basketball player Tatyanna Pogonza-Dumas and sister Juanita Jang celebrated the Perry Park opening.

“It’s a great opportunity to expand basketball around the local area and give individuals who aren’t aware of basketball the opportunity to jump in,” said Tayanna.

“We look forward to trying other sports at the facility. We’re Waterloo locals so it’s only a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk.”

Inner-city residents maintain healthy and active lifestyles

Perry Park is perfectly positioned to meet the needs of Sydney’s growing communities, including families with young children.

“Both my children were born in Alexandria and we really needed this kind of infrastructure,” said Lily, a local resident of 10 years.

“With a growing population and increased density in the area, having this facility allows for a more balanced lifestyle.”

Shooting hoops since 1960

Perry Park has been used for basketball since the late 1960s and the new centre is next to the existing dual-court Alexandria basketball stadium.

“I run the canteen at the basketball stadium next door,” said local resident, Kim. “I’ve watched the construction of Perry Park so it’s great to see it’s finally open. My two sons are interested in basketball and playing more sport. It’s great it’s so close by.”

Synthetic fields by 2021

Perry Park Recreation Centre has been designed to allow for future expansions. A synthetic field will be built by 2021, and the design allows for the outdoor courts to be converted to indoor courts in future.

Anyone and everyone can get involved

"For many city residents, our parks, open space and recreation centres are their only backyard, providing important spaces for children to play, and for neighbours to meet and interact," Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.
