Sydney New Year’s Eve 2020: Information for businesses

The NSW Government will strictly control public access around the harbour. Here’s what businesses in the area need to know.

Prince of York Bar, 2020

To help control crowd numbers, the NSW Government is setting up a special Green Zone around Circular Quay and The Rocks.

From 5pm on 31 December 2020, the following people will require a pass to enter the Green Zone:

  • Customers with confirmed bookings at restaurants, hotels, bars and ticketed events
  • Employees at these venues and events
  • Residents who live inside the zone, and their guests.

Register your business for a New Year’s Eve pass

If your business is in the Green Zone, you’ll need to register with Service NSW to accept customers.

This will allow you to provide customers and employees with a New Year’s Eve pass.

Head to the Service NSW website to apply. You’ll be able to register online up until 30 December.

Once your business is approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email with your unique registration code.

You’ll need to forward the registration code to your customers with a New Year’s Eve booking and employees working during the event. They will use your code to apply for a New Year’s Eve pass.

Be aware of current restrictions

Hospitality venues must adhere to the one person per four square metres rule.
