Australia's largest hub dedicated to climate action has opened in the heart of Sydney.

The new Greenhouse Climate Tech Hub, located in Salesforce Tower on George Street, Circular Quay, brings innovators, investors, climate action groups, academics and corporates together to find solutions to the world’s most serious climate problems.

Impact across biotech, renewable energy and circular economy

The hub, which opened on 25 October, is the result of a $31 million grant from the City of Sydney. Greenhouse can accommodate more than 400 people working on climate innovation projects including renewable energy, the circular economy and our biosphere.

Our 10-year investment will help progressive climate tech companies bring their big ideas to market, create jobs and expand into global markets.

The hub will not only strengthen businesses in the city, but help the world achieve net zero emissions, Clover Moore AO, Lord Mayor of Sydney said.

This is good for the planet, and very good for business in this city.

Greenhouse founding members

So far 20 members have signed up to the hub, tackling an incredibly diverse range of solutions, from carbon capture and storage to smart grid management and sustainable agriculture. Some of the founding members include: 

• Atlas Carbon - ensuring graziers achieve their carbon farming potential.
• Airseed Technologies - enabling reforestation through drone technology, artificial and data-driven intelligence.
• Turo - world's largest peer-to-peer car sharing marketplace where guests can book any car they want, from a community of trusted hosts.
• Coolsheet - heating water with wasted heat from solar panels.
• Loam Bio - enabling high quality atmosphere carbon removal at scale.
• Nu-Rock Technology - minimising waste and increasing recyclable materials usage in mining and construction.
• Hiringa Energy - making, moving, storing and selling green hydrogen for use in transport, industry and energy sectors.

Global cities leading the green tech way

Sydney joins a stronghold of global cities supporting green tech innovation. Some of the key players include:

• San Francisco Bay Area, the US, home to Tesla, Sunrun and Impossible Foods.
• Shanghai, China, leading in electric vehicles, battery storage and smart grid technologies.
• Bengaluru, India hosts startups such as Ola Electric, ReNew Power and ZunRoof.
• Berlin, Germany with a focus on transportation, such as Lilium, Tier Mobility, and Volocopter.

A unique workspace to support a growing startup community

Greenhouse is part of a large precinct development by Lendlease which includes 56-storey Salesforce Tower, a public plaza and retail laneways.

In 2021, we awarded Innovillage, now known as Greenhouse, an accommodation grant to operate and sub-lease 3 levels of Salesforce Tower. The 10-year rental subsidy arrangement will support the growth of emerging climate-tech businesses and others committed to enabling a net zero future.
