We’ve opened a new bike link on King Street in the city centre. The separated cycleway runs between Pitt Street and Elizabeth Street, providing a smooth and safe connection to the city’s east.
The new bike lane joins the popular Pitt Street cycleway, which opened as a pop-up in response to the pandemic. Pitt Street cycleway is now a permanent fixture, carrying up to 6,000 bike trips each week.
A better-connected city cycling network
The King Street cycleway is an important step in improving the connectivity of the bike network. It links with the College Street cycleway, which is now under construction, and the recently approved Castlereagh Street north cycleway.
Once the planned Castlereagh Street north cycleway is built, people riding will be able to travel from Central station to Circular Quay entirely on separated cycleways, via Castlereagh, King and Pitt streets.
The King Street cycleway will also join with the College Street cycleway, due for completion in early 2023. This link will provide a traffic-free route between Oxford Street and east Sydney, and Circular Quay.
